Software

HNCL has demonstrated a high level of success in utilizing state-of-the-art software and multimedia technologies to develop cost-effective innovative solutions in the fields of training, education, information systems, sales and marketing, and concept design. Our projects range from how to use a software application to how to deal with stress. We developed tools for funeral home directors to produce videos to assist in healing. At the same time, we produced applications for vacation planning, health, and environmental education. Our experienced team, with the assistance of subject matter experts, transform complex subjects into simple effective messages.

Interactive Training Applications

HNCL provides training solutions across a wide range of industries. We have a proven  methodology  to develop successful, cost-effective interactive desktop and online training solutions. We understand the importance of minimizing the necessity of client involvement, so as not to drain limited resources. We work closely with our clients’ project team and potential users to identify objectives and goals and then apply scientific methods to define the process and create well defined steps.

Multimedia Applications

The use of multimedia business applications is a powerful way of capitalizing on modern technology. Effective use of interactive communication capability requires not only an in-depth technical knowledge, but also a broad experience base. This powerful combination of technical expertise, experience and creativity, enables HNCL to maximize the effects of audio, video and text, and deliver it to the end user in a simple, efficient way.

HNCL was one of the first companies in Western Canada to produce multimedia applications. Since then, we have provided our clients with innovative interactive business solutions and consistently delivered them in a cost-effective, timely fashion.  Window on the Fraser River  was the first time the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and Environment Canada use a multimedia kiosk for public education. Since then, HNCL has been contracted by major corporations and government agencies to produce multiple interactive information systems and training applications.

Window on the Fraser River

Fraser River An interactive environmental education touch screen kiosk was developed for the Department of Fisheries and Environment Canada. The objective of this application was public environmental education to encourage the public’s participation in the decision making process of protecting the Fraser River Basin Ecosystem. Window on the Fraser River highlights the ecosystem and socio-economic structure of the Fraser River Basin, environmental challenges and proposed solutions by the federal government under the Green Plan. The application, developed in 1990 and updated in 1992, 1994 and 1996, combines video laser disc with digital audio and video (DVI) technologies. The kiosk travelled to different communities, public and scientific conferences and was selected by the Government of Canada as one of 1990’s most innovative projects.

Interactive Vacation Planning Guide

Intrawest
Developed for Intrawest, the Vacation Planning Guide is an integral part of the sales presentation. Before developing this interactive, touch-screen sales tool, we analyzed the sales process and determined how best to use multimedia technology to increase both the credibility and allure of Intrawest’s destination resorts. Upon standardizing the sales process and introducing compelling sales tools like the Vacation Planning Guide, sales grew dramatically. The program's inherent reliability eliminated the need for on-going technical support.

British Columbia Tourist Info-System

Intrawest
A touch screen kiosk developed for BC’s Ministry of Tourism, was the first application of its kind to be installed on board BC Ferries. HNCL worked closely with IBM Canada and Motorola to develop a unique wide-area multimedia networking system. This system used radio modems through the Internet to maintain and update application contents. We also developed special software for automatic touch screen calibration and system monitoring to ensure minimized down time. Finally, we created a reporting system to monitor kiosk usage and identify areas of user interest for future development.

Real Estate Marketing Systems

Intrawest
HNCL was one of the first companies to develop interactive touch screen multimedia systems to market real estate projects during the pre-construction phase. The systems incorporated digital audio and video with 3D animation to provide users with information about the projects and their main features, including location and amenities. Through a unique mortgage analysis module, the system also allowed users to analyze and calculate payment options and view how the equity in their investment could increase over time.

Real Estate Marketing Systems

Intrawest
This interactive training CD-ROM application defines, outlines and clarifies Intrawest’s sales process. HNCL developed this system by integrating accepted sales techniques and applying them specifically to highlight the benefits of Intrawest’s resorts to its customers. This was achieved by giving a thorough step-by-step breakdown of the sales process. Each step is defined and explained so that the salesperson understands not only what it is but also why they are doing it, thereby ensuring brand story consistency and minimizing a canned sales approach. HNCL worked closely with Intrawest employees to develop the content. We wrote the script, filmed the sequences and crafted the software. Through the use of video, audio and text, salespeople learned effective ways to relay and perceive information, establish trust and the right emotional tone necessary to sell the product.

Benefits of using interactive technology for sales training include:     - Reduction of training costs     - Quality improvement     - Standardization and integrity of the sales process across the company     - Consistency in the brand story     - Reference material available 24/7

Stress Management Training

Intrawest This unique interactive training module was developed for HSBC. The instructional design philosophy was based on providing users with an understanding of the impact of stress on their lives, and then, through simple self-assessment tests, acknowledge that they likely face it on a daily basis. Once stress is acknowledged, users learn how to manage it. The program also provides information and additional resources to help cope. Although this is a serious topic and we are often inundated by words of wisdom on managing stress and leading a healthy lifestyle, it is still one of the leading causes of illness and low productivity at work.
We produced the Stress Management Interactive Training in a user-friendly, straightforward, light-hearted manner to reflect two simple messages:
  1. Stress can have either a positive or negative impact, and
  2. Our attitudes and initiatives can influence the outcome of any stressful situation.

Intrawest

HNCL, through its subsidiary, Interactive Oil Spill Training Center Inc., developed an e-learning application entitled Basics of Oil Spill Response which is also available in CD-ROM.
